Weight optimization

In 2014, VM Tarm a/s produced the Tank Trailer of the Future, which was the result of a publicly-subsidised development project focused on reducing the tank trailer's tare weight.

The Tank Trailer of the Future transports milk for Arla Foods in Denmark on a daily basis and has now driven approximately one million kilometres. We have inspected it several times, and there were no remarks. The tank trailer can indeed hold up, even though it was designed right to the limits of what we thought was possible.​

VM Tarm a/s continues to work extensively on developments in weight optimisation. For instance, we have started producing tanks in duplex steel. This is a high-strength steel, which means we can reduce the material thickness by ½-1 mm.
