CO2 and energy accounts 2022-23

We have just completed a CO2 and energy accounting for the past financial year at VM Tarm a/s.

First the good news:

- Over a number of years, our general energy consumption has decreased by about 19%, even though the production area has increased by about 33%, and production activity has increased by about 23%. That's not too bad!

And then the bad news:

- Although our CO2 emissions are still very low (approximately 180 tons/year vs approximately 590 tons/year a few years ago), our production is no longer officially CO2 neutral.

The latter is due to the fact that we no longer use HVO biodiesel in our remaining diesel vehicles (trucks and vans). And why do we not do that?

For two reasons:

  • HVO has simply become too expensive.
  • A number of experts have pointed out that HVO is not particularly sustainable at all, and that it is actually better for the climate and the environment to run on regular diesel. Nevertheless, HVO is still officially considered CO2 neutral, and this should be put to a stop politically. But that is another discussion.
